24 Miles in 24 Hours: A memoir of bad decisions

Image
🎶Greetings loved ones, lets take a journey 🎶 What is popping everyone, its Delirious Dylan writing a mileage memoir, a pavement publication, a jogging journal, a cardio chronicle some might say. I really have to come up with a more original intro to these things but I'm having fun writing it and you chose to be here and read it so it's honestly your fault if you have any gripes. In a similar manner of you making a questionable decision to take time out of your day to read these characters I smushed together to make some words, I also made a questionable decision at the start of this year. I decided to run 24 miles in 24 hours, 1 mile every hour for 24 consecutive hours on new years day. In the rain. Yes, that means running a very cold and wet mile at 2am. "How tf did you think that was a good idea?" "What's wrong with you?" "Why would you do that to yourself?" "How are you so insanely cool and epic and amazing??" All valid questions...

Bagels ep.2 - Attack of the yeast

🎶Guess who's back, back again. Dylan's back, tell a friend.🎶 What's up, its Dough Dylan bringing you yet another bagel blog. a dough diary. some cooking commentary. a culinary chronicle. okay okay Dylan that is enough shenanigans, let's talk about why we're all actually here today; bagels. That's right, I'm back and better than ever. The burn on my hand from the last batch of bagels really put up a roadblock on my bagel journey, but my DNA built back better than ever. Since the last bagel episode, I've gotten to do a decent amount of bagel research. I visited the bagel motherland (aka New York) and tested out some of my fiercest competitors, like Utopia Bagels. Utopia is an award winning bagel shop founded in 1981 in Whitestone NYC and were awarded Best Bagel at BagelFest 2024. Now I'm not saying my goal is to win Best Bagel at BagelFest, but I'm not not saying that... So what's changed since the last time we talked? I got the right yeast. ...

Bagels ep.1 - The Bagel Pilgrimage Begins

Image
Whats poppin, its Dough Dylan bringing you the freshest content available on the internet, delivered in the most hip format possible...a blog of course. Today marks the start of my bagel journey - perfecting the bagel recipe. Chewy but crunchy, soft and puffy yet sturdy, bagels are a balance of opposites. They are objectively the best way to start any day, if made correctly. Now, I have wayyy too much Italian New Yorker blood flowing through me, it's slightly disgraceful that its taken me this long to start studying the art of bagels. So I've decided to change that today.  I've made bagels once before years ago and they turned out surprisingly well, especially for the severe lack of research and effort that I put into them. I literally googled bagel recipes and used the first one I found from AllRecipes or something. It worked for me somehow. But I want to put in just a tad more effort and understanding behind the science of bagels, so obviously I turned to reddit. r/Bagels...

My windows server died and took my recipe app down with it

Yo yo yo, whats good. It's Digital Dylan coming back at ya with another word vomit from my last two brain cells.  A couple days ago, I woke up at 2am to the worst sound a Windows computer could make, the death beep. Blaring louder than my alarm, I had to get up and yank the power cord out of the computer before I crawled back to bed.  This Windows computer that turned into a cuckoo clock in the depths of the night was an old computer that my family used. I, being the technology hoarder I am, have kept it for the past 5 years or so. A couple of months ago, I finally found a use for it. I turned it into a local host machine to host the recipe database website that I had been working on (recipes.dylanastrup.com). This worked out perfectly. I got to learn about local website hosting, networking, DNS management, and (the best part) I got to host it for free. I didn't really have a better spot to put it, so it ended up next to my dresser, a solid 5 feet away from my sleeping setup. ...

Personal Landing Page Build

Image
One of my close friends inspired me recently by sending me their portfolio website they built on Notion for all their personal and work projects, and it made me realize I need a hub for everything Dylan. All my little side quest projects have been randomly scattered across the internet, but today is the day I fix that...with the help of ChatGPT of course.  I started out with just a basic hub with links to all my subdomains and socials, even those that I don't use like Twitter and BMC; but you're still more than welcome to buy me a "coffee",  https://buymeacoffee.com/dylanastrup  :), although it will most definitely be used to buy chocolate milk cause coffee is nasty. This first version was basically just a lame version of a Linktree and obviously pretty rough, not only due to my moderately average CSS/HTML skills, but also because I was overutilizing ChatGPT to see if it had any creative implementation ideas.  v0.1 of my Personal Landing Page Now that I had a baselin...
